Buffalo State has produced a number of graduates who have pursued highly successful careers in the entertainment industry including: Tom Fontana, '73 (Emmy award-winning writer and producer of St. Elsewhere, Homicide: Life on the Street, Oz, and The Philanthropist); Marcia Mule, '81 (producer of Celebrity Poker Showdown, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List); Diane English, '70 (director of The Women and creator, writer, producer of Murphy Brown); Deborah Oppenheimer, '75 (producer of The Drew Carey Show and George Lopez), and Tom Calderone, '86 (President, VH1).
The Television & Film Arts Program continues this tradition by educating and inspiring emerging storytellers. The B.A. in Television & Film Arts, a unique interdisciplinary major, combines coursework from the Communication, English, and Theater departments with brand new Television & Film Arts courses.
Television & Film Arts majors are prepared for a number of exciting, challenging, and rewarding entertainment industry positions as screenwriters, directors, producers, and network/studio executives.
